A library is a collection of sources of information and similar resources, made accessible for reference or browsing. Usually this information comes in the form of books, but sometimes it's maps, charts, scrolls, etc.

You can spend your downtime doing research at a library, or just get a job at one shelving books and cataloging information.

Downtime Activity: Research

Research lets you delve into lore concerning monsters, locations, magic items, or other particular topics.

Resources. Assuming you have access to a library or a sage to conduct research with, research requires one workweek of effort and at least 50 gp spent on materials, bribes, gifts, and other expenses.

Resolution. Declare the focus of your research: a specific person, place, or thing. After one workweek, you make an intelligence check with a +1 bonus per 100 gp spent beyond the initial 100 gp, to a maximum of +6. If you're doing your research in a very well-stocked library or with a very knowledgeable sage, you gain advantage on this check. Once you've rolled the check, consult the table below:

Check Total Outcome
1-5 No effect.
6-10 You learn one piece of lore.
11-20 You learn two pieces of lore.
21+ You learn three pieces of lore.

Examples of lore include knowledge of a creature's resistances, the password needed to enter a sealed dungeon level, the spells commonly prepared by an order of wizards, and so on. The DM has the final say concerning exactly what you learn.

Complications. Not all lore you uncover is accurate or truthful, and those helping you may have motives to lead you astray. Once you resolve the above, roll a d10. On a 1, you suffer a complication determined by the GM.

Downtime Activity: Work

You can find temporary employment at this establishment.

Resources. Performing a job requires one workweek (five days) of effort.

Resolution.To determine how much money you earn, roll an ability check: Strength (Athletics), Dexterity (Acrobatics), Intelligence using a set of tools, Charisma (Performance), or Charisma using a musical instrument. Use the check that applies most to the kind of work you're doing. Consult the below table to see how much money you earned.

Complications. After resolving the above, roll a d10. On a 1, you suffer a complication determined by the GM.
